FARMINGTON — The Third Annual Dreamin’ Big Bed Race, held during Summer Fest Saturday evening on Broadway, drew cheers from relatives, friends and supporters.
Two teams, Dream Team and Fairly Gnomal, competed in three heats to determine the overall race winner.
Fairly Gnomal quickly took the lead in the first heat and won that race. The Dream Team got a jump that was never relinquished in the second heat. Fairly Gnomal was fastest in the final heat and were declared the winners.
The teams took time between each heat to congratulate each other on their successes.
Summer Fest organizer Andy Shattuck said, “Only in Farmington do you get sportsmanship like that. This is turning into Farmington’s premier event.”
The Dream Team featured Wilton residents Cherieann Harrison and Jan Collins who are seeking legislative seats. Team mates Lisa Lisius and Vicki Collins helped steer the bed while Lyesha Harrington rode. They were running for equal representation.
Farkas family members made up Fairly Gnomal. The team from Virginia has competed in every Dreamin’ Big Bed Race since their inception.
“We come here summers. We keep timing our vacation just right. This is the first time we’ve won,” one family member said.
Another quipped, “We’ve been training for this every day for three months!”
The Dream Team also won the award for Best Decorated Bed while Fairly Gnomal won the Best Costumes award.
